5:30–7:30pm
Prairiewood Retreat & Preserve
Manhattan, KS
Join artist Kory Reeder at Prairiewood’s Blue Sage Barn for a guided walk through Willis Prairie, followed by a potluck and casual campfire conversation.
Kory will introduce and workshop deep listening practices and walking as an aesthetic practice. Learn about sound, acoustic ecology, and relational listening within the Great Plains, and the importance of Place within the sounding environment.
**If you would like to stick around for dinner, please bring something to contribute to a casual, picnic-style meal! There will be access to a commercial kitchen with fridge and oven, if needed. Participants are also encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket**
Weather permitting, this event will be mostly outdoors. Wear comfortable walking shoes (trails are mowed, but can be somewhat rocky and/or muddy in places) and bring bug spray.
NOTE: Prairiewood will be hosting two indie filmmakers, Nathaniel Wilder and Tom Attwater, who are creating a documentary about the tallgrass prairie. They will be filming on site during the week, and will likely want footage of this event. Attending this event indicates your willingness to appear on film. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to info@prairiewood.com
